About our Quality
Each E.J. Gillett piece is hand crafted individually using only the finest materials, ensuring their beauty and durability for many years to come. Below are some of the details that make our furniture special:
Solid Wood Construction
Our furniture is made primarily from solid pieces of hand-selected domestic hardwood. Durability and longevity are essential traits that we build into each piece.
Craftsman Joinery
Spending extra time on all our joinery ensures that the connections are strong and durable, and will stand the test of time for decades to come. We try to leave our joinery in plain view to show we are proud of this component.
Finished Backside
Many builders today will use quality materials and finish only on the front sides. We go the extra step and finish the backside with the same attention as the front allowing the piece to sit away from the wall if needed.
Hand-Rubbed Finish
The finish we typically use requires roughly seven applications by hand of boiled linseed oil, pure tung oil, polyurethane varnish, and final coats with carnauba wax. This combination leaves the wood with a warm, rich tone that is very pleasing to the eye.
Our Signature Is Your Guarantee
When we sign at the bottom, we are putting in our 100% guarantee on craftsmanship, good for as long as you own the piece. We believe in our work and stand behind it.

Background
Originally from Northern California in Marin County, Eric J Gillett comes from a family of artists. “My father an artist in clay and bronze sculpture, and my mother an artist of the spiritual realm”. The Gillett heritage is full of craftsman dating back to early America. The original 1820 journeyman toolbox of his great-great-great grandfather Edgar Gillett is displayed at the Indiana Museum.
Eric J. Gillett's original studies began with a focus on Industrial Design in college, and then on his own moved into the field of furniture design and production.
The Studio
The studio is located in Southern California, nestled between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. Ventura, a Bohemian beach city, is developing into the “Mediterranean of the California coast” much as Santa Barbara has. Ventura along with its neighboring city Ojai, are residence to some of the greatest artists in the country.
